Our Story
The Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the Nunavut Act established Nunavut as a Territory and vested the Inuit of Nunavut with title to approximately 350,000 km2 of land, of which 35,257 km2 include mineral rights.
The Kitkimeot Inuit were subsequently able to select areas of the highest mineral potential as Inuit Owned Lands.
West Kitikmeot Gold Corp was formed in 2014 to finance and execute mineral exploration primarily on these Inuit Owned Lands, and has entered into Mineral Exploration Agreements with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated to gain access to these lands.
In 2022, a group of investors with substantial Northern and mining experience recapitalized WKG with new investment to accelerate the work of the company.
